报告摘要:
In the Anthropocene, habitat destruction and urbanization lead to faunal turn-over, with sensitive species giving way to more anthropogenically adapted ones. This faunal turn-over is exacerbated by introductions of exotic species that are often better adapted to urban ordisturbed habitats than native ones. The long-standing narrative surrounding faunal turn-over is one of demographic replacement, but what is widely neglected is the genetic replacement that goes along with it. Endangered populations are known to be more susceptible to introgressive hybridization asthe last few individuals of a species will struggle to find mates of their own, and turn to closely-related invaders for reproduction. This introgressive hybridization is often the death knell for terminally endangered populations. In this talk, I outline the general evidence for introgressive hybridization inthe faunal replacement context, and discuss some studies aiming to raise awareness of this often-neglected phenomenon.
